With tax season officially underway, the City of Tulsa has a few tools to help you file and get the most out of your return.
The City of Tulsa wants people to know about the ‘Volunteer Income Tax Assistance’ program and the ‘Earned Income Tax Credit’ so people can get the most out of their tax returns this year.
The tax assistance program has volunteers who are trained to help you file your taxes for free if you make a certain amount.
You can make an appointment to meet face-to-face with a tax preparer or drop off all of the necessary paperwork and get the return taken care of that way.
Janae Bradford with the city said the ‘Earned Income Tax Credit’ helps households who make $64,000 or less a year get a little more money on their tax refund.
"You work hard. You’re going to work day in and day out. You’re making your money, but things are expensive, right? And so this is a really great credit that comes to you to help offset some of those costs and to be able to file your return for free and get that credit on top of it," Bradford said.
The City of Tulsa also has the ‘Financial Empowerment Center,' which helps people reach their financial goals.
