STEM Center Coming To Owasso; Teaches Children About Computer Coding, Robotics

One company is teaching children about computer coding and robotics through a Montessori-style approach.

It's called Code Wiz and the new STEM center is opening soon in Owasso.

Code Wiz will provide afterschool programs, summer camps, and extracurriculars like a robotics club for kids 7 to 17.

Code Wiz was founded in 2017 as a children's enrichment educational service. The STEM program tailors the lessons to each kid's level and allows them to build LEGO robots, create cartoon characters, code video games, and more.

There are several Code Wiz's across the country, but this is the first one in Oklahoma.

Owners DeEtta and Troy Bumgardner said learning how to code can also help students improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Code Wiz uses programs like Minecraft and Roblox. Troy said the kids are already familiar with the platforms. This is an opportunity for them to come and see how they can create their own technology.

“We talk about it being STEM based because obviously there’s science in coding. There’s technology in coding. There’s math in coding. And so we just think that in today's STEM-focused world, jobs are going to continue to be technology focused. And as a result, if you come out of school with some knowledge, you’re gonna be ahead of the game," Troy said.

Code Wiz will have a ribbon cutting March 14 and a grand opening March 23.
