A local non-profit has added a new fatherhood program to help give support and resources to Tulsa fathers.

The Sowing into Father’s program includes case management resources, mentorship, and access to community events. Sowing into Fathers is a free program from the non-profit Skills On Wheelz that offers fathers and male guardians a positive space to fellowship.

The Kaiser Foundation has funded the program, which is designed to provide services for men with kids aged 0-8 years. Michael McCallister, a therapist with the program says, one in 10 men are diagnosed with anxiety and depression, but almost half of them remain undiagnosed.

The ultimate goal of Skillz on Wheels is to ensure that people have access to counseling services through the mobile health clinic.

“Confidence in themselves, hope that there is a future, that they can accomplish their goals, and we want them to have some coping skills. Just some tools that they can use on a daily basis to help them overcome their challenges. Sometimes it’s just the normal things that they do to feel good but maybe they’re not doing enough of it so we’re tapping into that,” said McCalister.

Each man gets six free sessions before they are connected with additional resources to help them with their journey. Anyone interested in the program can call 918-764-8067 for questions.
