Girl’s wrestling is growing in popularity across Oklahoma, including in Tulsa.
Two girls from McLain High School just recently made it to the state finals. Aubrey Bolton and Harmoni Callins came in second.
Although they're not happy with the outcome, they say they've come a long way this season.
During every practice, Aubrey Bolton and Harmoni Callins push each other to get back on their feet.
"One practice just teaches you so much discipline and teaches you to push past the challenge mentally," said Aubrey.
Aubrey and Harmoni make up the girl's wrestling team at McLain. Every day, they practice their pins and fireman carries with the boy's team.
The two agree--it's not easy.
"I feel like Aubrey and I have been through a lot of mental challenges together, especially being the only girls on the team," Harmoni said.
Although it's been challenging, the girls say it's also been rewarding.
The two traveled to Oklahoma City for the state tournament last weekend. They both came in second in their weight classes.
"This weekend was the toughest things I ever went through, but it was easier with Aubrey,” said Harmoni. “We prayed, we had to push each other, and we didn't get the results we wanted, but we are really proud of each other."
“It's kind of like a love-hate relationship right now. I am really proud of myself, but just the loss is tough,” Aubrey said.
The two are already pushing each other to get ready for next season, and they have set their goals for next year--both want to win the state title in their weight classes.
