Families will soon be able to enjoy a new playground on the Jenks Riverwalk.
The history of the Muscogee Nation is the inspiration behind the design of the 4,000-square-foot playground.
Construction on the new playground on the Riverwalk in Jenks is almost complete.
Kelli Collins came up with the designs for the new spot where kids can play right by the Arkansas River.
She loves seeing her ideas go from a blueprint to reality.
Collins says a lot of time and thought went into creating this playground because she wanted to use elements that are culturally significant to Muscogee Nation.
"We wanted to incorporate the history and the values of the Muscogee Nation as well as the surrounding nature that we have here,” she said. “The river, the trees, the eagles’ nests that are here."
Muscogee Nation pitched in money for recreation improvement projects at the Jenks Riverwalk--including the playground.
Collins says the playground is in a popular spot families go to already.
"We see people walking the Riverwalk every day. There's a lot of great retail outlets behind us, restaurants. It's a great place for families to come and spend the afternoon," said Collins.
Her biggest goal with creating the new playground is bringing families together.
"It's so important to have family time outside,” she said. “We have gotten into a world where everything is contained inside behind screens, behind phones. By bringing the family outdoors it just unites us and is just valuable."
The playground is scheduled to be finished in the next couple of weeks--by March 15 and will be open to the public on April 4.
