Cushing Faces Water Shortage; Sand Springs Rotary Club Steps In To Help

People in Cushing are going to be without water for a while, now that the town's reserves are depleted, even though the city's water plant is now fixed. Water service can't be restored until the Department of Environmental Quality does its testing on the water. Until then, the Cushing Rotary Club is asking for water donations.

Rotary Clubs around the area are jumping in to help because the Rotary motto is: service above self. Rotary Clubs across America are all about helping the people in their communities.

"Whether it be building a wheelchair ramp, or in this case gathering donations for water," said Danny Hancock, Sand Springs Rotary Club President.

The Sand Springs Rotary Club donated a pallet of water bottles to Cushing. That water went to 32 families who don't have water right now.

"People are needing to get water to mix formula for their babies, and need water to take their medication, and cleaning medical equipment and for washing their hands and dishes and drinking," said Allie Prator, Secretary of Cushing Rotary Club.

Allie Prator said they knew they couldn't meet the need for water alone, so they asked other Rotary clubs for help.

"Sand Springs answered immediately, and said we are going to do everything that we can just let us know what you need," said Prator.

The Rotary Club of Sand Springs President Danny Hancock said Rotary clubs are like superheroes always ready to jump into action.

"I work at Platinum Mechanical; and so, I was able to arrange after purchasing a pallet of water having our drivers deliver it today, this morning, so it took a matter of a couple hours to have all that arranged," said Hancock.

He said his club will deliver another pallet next week if it's needed, so they can help the folks in Cushing worry about one less thing right now.

"They should have no concern that they have friends and neighbors nearby and far away as far as here in Tulsa that are ready to help, and I don't think they have anything to fear about that, that they will be helped, taken care of," said Hancock.

The Cushing Rotary Club is also asking people with food trucks to come to Cushing since most of the restaurants are closed right now because of the lack of water. Prator said if you want to donate cases of water you can drop them off at the Cushing Fire Department.
