It's a brand-new school year as students head back to class this morning at Wagoner Public Schools.

It's an exciting time for the school district according to Superintendent Randy Harris because there are a lot of new things happening this year. Harris talked about what we can expect this year, including the new breakfast and lunch program.

Harris hopes this will help students succeed in the classroom. The district is also launching a mobile book bus to allow more students to read outside the classroom. The district has hired a workforce coordinator to help both current students and students who've graduated find a career path.

He said all of this is about continuing to see growth in the district.

"One of the things that we say around here is be committed to the pursuit of continuous improvement and this is my 10th year to start to be at Wagoner Public Schools and we’ve seen lots of growth, but I still feel like we have lots of capacities to fill, lots of growth to go forward and so every year you’re just looking for those growth opportunities," said Harris.

Harris said he's ready to get the new year underway even if today is what he describes as organized chaos. Classes began at 7:45 and will be until 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
