Northeastern State University Football is set to make a historic return to Broken Arrow on Sept. 28, marking the first game in the city for the team since 1911.

The RiverHawks will face Missouri Southern at Tiger Memorial Stadium, located on the Broken Arrow High School campus, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.

NSU President Rodney Hanley emphasized the significance of this return, stating, “NSU is a proud RUSO institution that supports northeastern Oklahoma’s educational needs. Having a football game in Broken Arrow will allow our alumni, students, and future students the opportunity to cheer on the RiverHawks and further connect to NSU.”

Hanley also acknowledged the crucial role played by Broken Arrow City Administrators and Broken Arrow Public School employees in facilitating this event.

“The City Council and Administration are proud to have Northeastern State University as part of our community,” said Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee. “Our partnership with NSU strengthens the connection between education, athletics, and local growth. Events like this game showcase the mutual benefits of that collaboration, and we are excited to support the university’s presence in Broken Arrow. It’s a win-win for our residents and students alike.”

NSU Director of Athletics John Sisemore expressed gratitude for the partnership with Broken Arrow High School Athletics and the support from Visit Broken Arrow.

“What a great opportunity to play in one of the finest high school facilities around,” Sisemore remarked.

He noted that the main goal of hosting the game in Broken Arrow is to highlight the NSU-Broken Arrow campus and strengthen connections with alumni in the Tulsa metro area.

Tailgating will kick off at 11 a.m. in Tiger Plaza, located south of the stadium. The NSU Foundation and Alumni Association will host a “Green and White” tailgating space as a central hub for fans, alumni, and students to gather.

High school students from Broken Arrow and the greater Tulsa metro area can enjoy free admission by presenting their student ID or wearing their school football jersey.

Additionally, attendees will have a chance to win a vehicle during a halftime promotion and two high school seniors will also have the opportunity to win a tuition waiver for six credit hours for the Fall 2025 semester.

Tickets went on sale on Sept. 21, and NSU will implement the BAHS Clear Bag Policy.
