Brent Venables spent 19 minutes in an opening statement during Tuesday's press conference. The coach had a lot to discuss following his team's performance on Saturday against Tennessee.

On Monday night, the Sooners coach confirmed that Michael Hawkins will start at quarterback instead of Jackson Arnold on the road at Auburn.

“Jackson’s going to have an amazing future and career,” Brent Venables said. “He’s going to play this game a long time and all of that will work itself out in due time.”

Jackson and the OU offense were out of sorts, only completing 43% of his passes for 54 yards and an interception, bringing his season total to three interceptions and seven touchdowns with 538 passing yards.

Michael Hawkins entered the game and threw for 132 yards and a touchdown.

How did Jackson take the news?

"He understood. He had a great mindset, no surprise," Venables said. "Takes responsibility. He didn't make excuses."
