'It's Been An Awesome Job': Joshua and Crew Morrow Discuss Their Soap Opera Journeys

Many have enjoyed Oklahoma's own Joshua Morrow on "The Young and the Restless" for years. Now, his son, Crew, has joined a soap opera of his own.

The father-son duo spoke with LeAnne Taylor on News On 8 at 9 to talk about it.

LeAnne: Crew, you play Will Spencer on "The Bold and the Beautiful," with your parents on the show played by veteran actors Heather Tom and Don Diamont, who were also on "The Young and the Restless." What has this experience been like for you as a 19-year-old?

Crew: It’s been the greatest learning experience ever. I’m learning on the fly, constantly thrown into the deep end, and I have amazing scene partners guiding me along the way. I’m like a sponge, soaking in everything. They’ve all been so gracious.

LeAnne: Looking at a clip of the show, when I first saw it, it was a throwback to when your dad was on "The Young and the Restless." Was acting something you always wanted to do?

Crew: No, it really came out of nowhere. I worked with acting coaches, went to school for it, did a few movies, and auditioned for all the other soap operas—"Days of Our Lives," "General Hospital." The only one I didn’t audition for was "The Young and the Restless." Finally, "The Bold and the Beautiful" scooped me up, and here we are.

LeAnne: I’m glad they did. Fun fact—this is my husband's favorite soap from college. He used to watch "The Bold and the Beautiful" before football practice at UCO, and now, he’s a big fan of yours! Josh, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since you started. You were about Crew’s age, right?

Joshua: Yeah, just about a year older when I started. It’s kind of crazy how it all worked out. If you’d told me 30 years ago I’d still be doing this, I would’ve been in disbelief but incredibly thankful. It’s been an amazing job, providing for my family and giving me so many opportunities. I’m forever grateful to the Bell family, CBS, and Sony.

LeAnne: It’s been fun watching you over the years. Your co-stars like Phyllis and Sharon have also been on this show. You’ve talked before about how it’s really an ensemble cast, and the longevity you’ve had is impressive.

Joshua: Yeah, we follow the Bill Bell playbook. He created incredible characters and storylines, and we try to uphold his vision. It’s a team effort. We work year-round, long hours, but we’ve got such a great fanbase that it makes it worth it. I’ve been on for 30 years, but the show’s been around for over 50. It’s an incredible achievement.

LeAnne: Crew, does your dad give you advice? Has he watched your episodes and shared any tips?

Crew: Of course! I’m so thankful for it. He’ll pull me aside and share what he sees. Just the other day, he was telling me about a scene and how important it is to slow down my words for the tagline. He’s always giving me little gems of advice.

LeAnne: That’s really cool. Josh, is it fun for you to watch him?

Joshua: I love it. As a parent, you just hope your kids find their passion and happiness. For him to have this kind of success so early is amazing. His mom and I are incredibly proud. He may be on a show and on the verge of becoming a big deal, but he’s always been an easy kid to raise. He’s got Oklahoma values, and I couldn’t be prouder. Everyone at work has nothing but great things to say about him, and that’s when you know you’ve done a good job.
