There is one Longhorn team we can all root for this week. Inola High School is a finalist in the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights competition. If they win, they get $2 million to upgrade their facilities.
As students made their commute to Inola High School, a big surprise was waiting for them: a pep rally. Inola is one of sixteen schools across the nation and the only school in Oklahoma up for the chance to win $2 million to upgrade its football stadium. The grand prize, provided by T-Mobile, includes a $100,000 cash grant, a new scoreboard, and an upgraded weight room.
Students like Connor Pratt were decked out in pink and showing off their spirit. As a member of the football team, he says this makeover is needed.
"Seeing a small town like this, we don't have a lot of big upgrades around here. We like to keep it small, but seeing something like this that's so big and the amount of money being put into our school and our program is great," said Connor.
The stadium is utilized not only by the school but the whole community.
"Our little league uses it, private groups come out and use it for different things, we have people walking the track, we have people using the weight room. I mean, it would be a game-changer for the community. Our scoreboard is really old, our turf needs to be replaced; I mean, it needs a lot of upgrades," said Assistant Principal TJ Helling.
Inola will be awarded $30,000 from T-Mobile for just being one of the sixteen finalists. But they're hopeful their school spirit will earn them the top spot.
