McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Suspended McAlester City Manager Susan Monroe is resigning after less than a year on the job.

Monroe's resignation is effective May 26th and was submitted Wednesday after she pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of destroying evidence in a plea agreement.

Monroe was suspended last month by the City Council over a $2,500 pay raise that the council said it did not approve.

She was then charged with destroying records related to her employment.

Monroe was given nine months probation after pleading guilty and paid restitution of more than $700 to the city.

Monroe was hired last July just over six months after former City Manager Randy Green was fired over the buy back of unused vacation and leave time.
