OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma gets a ``B'' in history in a national report by a nonprofit organization.

The Sooner state is one of only 16 states to get a passing grade in history instruction in the Thomas B Ford Institute Report.

About two-thirds of states were given a ``D'' or ``F'' and only eight states received an ``A.''

State school Superintendent Sandy Garrett says Oklahoma's instruction standards are good, but still have room for improvement. Garrett says she wants education officials to focus on getting an ``A.''

The report includes suggestions for improvement such as more focus on world history before sixth grade and better coverage of events that have occurred since World War II.
