OKLAHOMA CITY -- James Harden will travel back to Los Angeles, just a handful of miles away from where he grew up, and where he and the Oklahoma City Thunder will take on the Lakers.

The rookie’s made a big impact while in Oklahoma City, putting up 9.9 points per game and grabbing 3.2 rebounds, but perhaps the most notable feature about Harden is his beard. Fans have taken to the facial hair, donning black beards in honor of the guard.

“To come here as a rookie and have that kind of support, you know, people having fake beards and wearing the headbands, it’s definitely a great honor,” Harden said. “It shows how much these fans support us.”

Harden and the youthful Thunder squad will be facing the reigning champs, the Lakers. L.A. has age and experience over the Thunder, but Harden said that may be an Oklahoma City strength.

“We’re all young. We can all get into the pain, create for one another,” Harden said. “We have to use our youth against these guys.”

While Harden grew up watching Los Angeles, his game face is on for Sunday’s match up.

“It’s a different story now,” Harden said. “We have to go out there and really compete. We’re playing for something special.”
