An out-of-control car ripped a Tulsa fire hydrant completely out of the ground early Sunday. Police say the 18-year-old man behind the wheel was uninjured but was taken to jail on several complaints.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m. at 31st and Memorial. The driver was on Memorial when he lost control of his car and ran up onto the curb, over the hydrant and into a parking lot.

A tow truck driver dislodged the fire hydrant from the car's undercarriage.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of driving under the influence, transporting an open container of alcohol and other traffic violations, an officer at the scene said.
