A man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after authorities believe he swallowed meth while running from a Tulsa County Sheriff's deputy.
The deputy tried to stop two men around 1 a.m. on Southwest Boulevard near West 25th. Captain John Bryant said one of the men appeared to be intoxicated, so deputies stopped to talk to them.
The man took off and ran about 200 yards before tripping and falling, Bryant said. That's when the man pulled out a baggie and swallowed it, he said.
Deputies found methamphetamine, pills, syringes and a pipe on his person, the captain said. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The other man was released. Bryant said he was cooperative and had no outstanding warrants.
Bryant said they anticipated arresting the man after he was released from the hospital; however, Deputy Justin Green later said they will wait for lab results before taking him into custody.
"We know who he is, and we know where he is," Green said.
