The Tulsa Fire Department plans to lower the minimum age for new recruits to 18.

The Tulsa Fire Department plans to lower the minimum age for new recruits to 18.

Right now a city ordinance states cadets must be 21. Tulsa Fire often looks for recruits in high schools but sometimes loses them to other cities because of their age restriction.

The city council plans to approve the change. It will likely take effect before the fire department's next class.
