"They were like my second mom and dad," Hall told News on 6.  Hall went to Cornerstone Church with Beverly and Joe Spence for years. She says Joe even helped her through her battle with breast cancer as a single mom.

"He would sit for hours that it would take and keep me company and take me home. It was such a scary time and it made me feel like I wasn't alone, and he was incredible he and Beverly both," said Hall.

Hall says she was shocked when she found out the Spences were shot to death in their home. Police arrested Their son for their murder.

Police say Joe and Beverly Spence's son, Bryan,  shot and killed them over money. Investigators say text messages showed Spence owed his parents 17-thousand dollars. He's in jail tonight on A two million dollar bond.

Asbury United Methodist Church senior pastor Tom Harrison knew the Spences for more than 20 years and says the Spences did everything from teaching Sunday school to volunteering to help move furniture. The pastor says their death leaves a void.

"We are grieving we hurt this doesn't make sense, but we believe in heaven," Harrison told News on 6. "That gives us hope, and optimism even in the face of a senseless tragedy like this, we are still people of faith," said Harrison.

Hall says she also believes the Spences are in heaven. She plans to honor them by paying their kindness forward to others.

"You realize I have that little piece of a Spence in me because they made you want to be better. There is no more pain form them, they're in heaven rejoicing," said Hall.
