OKLAHOMA CITY -- A group of young farmers decided to donate their show animals to hungry Oklahomans.
On Monday members of the Seiling FFA chapter donated more than 1,200 pounds of pork to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. As part of the Oklahoma Youth Expo, the students said they decided to donate their show pigs instead of selling them.
"You'll normally get around $60 or $70. If you think about it, after all the feed you put into them and the time and care, that $60 dollars isn't worth near as much as what it is to us to help somebody and feed that many people through one hog," said Chelsie Livingston, Seiling FFA member.
The donated meat will help provide about 4,300 meals to Oklahoma families.
Livingston said the group hopes to get more FFA chapters involved in donating their meat.
