A Wagoner Middle School student is in custody after police say he made threats to shoot up the school.

Police say at first the student denied saying anything, then admitted he told another student he would bring a shot gun to school and blow their brains out.

Police say students reported the threat, after hearing the boy say he was going to bring a a gun to school and shoot people and shoot up the place.

“It was a couple students on a school bus that reported it to their parents; the parents in turn brought them to the police department,” says Officer Amanda Craig with Wagoner Police.

After interviewing those students, officers went to the boy’s house who they say made the threats.

They say he initially denied making the threat, then later admitted he said he was going to bring a shotgun to school.

Officers searched his room but say they didn’t find any weapons.

“Once officers got finished with the investigation, they felt comfortable enough that this young man was actually making the threats so they went ahead and placed him in OJA custody,” says Craig.

Officers say he has been suspected for the rest of the school year.

Officer Amanda Craig says they take even a hint of a threat, very seriously.

“We have additional officers doing patrols, doing walk throughs of the buildings, making sure everybody knows that we take this seriously and we take threats or even the thought of threats or even kids making jokes of this sort of thing, we take it very very seriously,” says Craig.

She says this is why it’s so important for students to know, if you hear something, say something.

“Don’t be afraid to speak up,” says Craig. “Tell mom and dad. Tell your teacher. Tell the principal. Tell the bus driver. Just speak up so we can prevent these atrocities from happening.”

Wagoner Public Schools said in a statement that student safety is their utmost concern and their schools continue to be safe. They say if you have any questions or concerns contact their administration office, 918-485-4046 .
