The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead in his front yard. Investigators said his girlfriend was also shot.
The shooting took place near the 32000 block of S. 685 Road, east of Grove.
It is the first homicide of the year for the sheriff’s office. The OSBI is assisting in the investigation.
“Extremely unusual. We haven’t had anything like this in a very long time,” Undersheriff Tracy Shaw said.
Shaw said a woman was shot as she looked for her boyfriend around 5:00 Thursday morning. He works overnights and she didn’t see him come home.
“She went to the door to find out where he was and when she came outside and turned the porch light on, that’s when everything happened,” Shaw said.
Investigators said the boyfriend was shot and killed in the front yard, and his truck was stolen. Authorities are looking for a tan 2002 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup. The GMC has headlight damage and tape on the damage.
Aside from the evidence left behind at the scene, deputies and agents are working with limited clues about what happened leading up to the shooting.
“There’s no surveillance, and no neighbors, no witnesses,” Shaw said.
Deputies are thankful the woman, who was shot in the wrist, is going to be OK.
“If it wasn’t for her, we would not have any information right now and we would be at a complete loss,” Shaw said.
Investigators said a white Nissan four door car with tinted windows left the scene. The car was found in McDonald County in Missouri. Law enforcement there said three people were inside the car. All three have been interviewed by Oklahoma law enforcement, deputies said.
Earlier in the day Thursday, there were two persons of interest deputies were looking for. They have since asked News On 6 to stop using their names as they move forward with the investigation.
Deputies said they have interviewed eight people for the investigation, including some in Missouri.
The victim has not been identified.
