Tulsa police say a man was injured fighting over a gun when someone tried to rob him Wednesday morning.
Police say a man went out to his car in the parking lot of the Cobblestone Apartments near 51st and Memorial around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
“Opened the door and there was a person sitting in the front seat of his car,” said Officer Jeanne Pierce.
Officer Pierce says the owner yelled for him to get out of the car, but the man inside pulled a gun and demanded that the victim hand over his wallet.
“He grabbed the gun and started struggling,” said Pierce. “A shot was fired through the windshield of that vehicle.”
Police say the gunman ran away.
The victim wasn’t hit with the bullet, but he did go to the hospital for a leg injury.
Police say he is not cooperating with investigators.
“It might sound like it is a waste of our time, but in the long run, it might actually be evidence from that vehicle that could help solve another crime,” Pierce said.
Police want to remind people of something simple – don’t leave your cars unlocked – and, if you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t engage the person.
“With this incident, there was a shot fired,” said Pierce. “A stray bullet that could’ve shot somebody just walking to their car at an apartment complex with a lot of foot traffic and early morning with kids going to school.”
Police say they searched for the would-be robber but didn't find him. He was described as a black male, 30 to 35 years old, about 5'8" and 120 pounds wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and a baseball cap.
