Claremore Police say a woman died in a wreck near Rogers State University Wednesday afternoon.

The crash took place in the intersection of Blue Starr and State Highway 88. Video from Osage SkyNews 6 HD showed that a dump truck hit a car in the driver's side. Claremore Police said the wreck killed a 76-year-old woman, but they haven't released the woman's name yet.

Claremore Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were on the scene of the deadly crash for hours this afternoon, trying to figure out what happened.

"One of the vehicles that was involved was a dump truck that was loaded down at the time," said Deputy Chief Steve Cox "This is a busy intersection we have a college were we have the Will Rogers Memorial we have state highway 88 so this is kind of a big intersection on the west side of town."

Traffic was diverted through the Rogers State University campus as police investigate the wreck.

"Its a very heavy vehicle so it took him a while to get stopped so we'll continue to try and figure out if that contributed," said Chief Cox.

Police are speaking with witnesses in an attempt to reconstruct the crash.

"We are still early on in the investigation, we don't know the cause yet," said Chief Cox.
