The area of 15th and Lewis is a busy one but as an ambitious construction project continues to detour traffic, business owners and drivers are facing new challenges.

Business owners say the ongoing rehabilitation project is driving away customers. Traffic on South Lewis is limited to one lane in each direction, and "No Left Turn" signs have been posted on all legs of the intersection.

Officials say the project will include moving waterlines as well as pavement and sidewalk replacement. It also includes rebuilding the entire South Lewis and East 15th Street intersection. Workers at local businesses say the construction is frustrating for their customers.

"I think people just don't want to have to deal with all that traffic trying to get here so I just feel like they just wind up going to other locations and not bothering to come in because of it," said Stacy McCain of At The Beach Tanning Salon.

Officials say the rehabilitation project is expected to be finished at the end of the year.
