A UCO professor says Oklahoma could find almost $30 million in education savings if we consolidated school districts.
In a report called "Right-sizing Oklahoma Districts", Professor James Machell explains if Oklahoma reduced our number of school districts from about 600 down to about 200, the savings would be $27 million.
He says states with similar student populations - Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky and Utah - average close to 200 districts.
Professor Machell added that he's not trying to attack anyone, and he realizes the impact consolidation could have on rural communities.
