Bartlesville Man Arrested In Woman's Shooting Death

Authorities have arrested a man in the death of a woman near Ochelata. Washington County Sheriff's Office said they arrested John Jeffery Thomas for first-degree murder and a protective order violation in the death of Michele E. Mayes. 

Mayes had recently broken up with Thomas and filed a protective order against him for domestic abuse, according to family members.

On September 4, investigators say Thomas shot and killed her in the front yard of the Prairie View Trailer Park on West 2900 Road. He was found lying about 20 feet away from Mayes with a gunshot wound to the chest. 

He was discharged from a Tulsa hospital September 10 and taken into custody. WCSO said he will be held without bond pending an upcoming hearing.
