Tulsa police are investigating after a body was found in a west Tulsa motel.
Homicide detectives responded to the Budget Inn in the 800 block of West Skelly Drive around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
Officers said the man was discovered when a maid entered the room to clean it.
“The maid went in today to clean the room and found a man dead with a gunshot wound to the head,” said Sergeant Brandon Watkins.
Police say the man was shot at least once and the gun was not found inside the room.
The victim was approximately 40 years old and some of the officers responding to the call say they recognized him from times they’ve talked with him before.
“Some of the officers, they’ve taken reports from him in the past, and he’s got a little bit of a record,” said Watkins.
The motel is in the middle of a busy industrial area along Interstate 44. Police say the victim had lived there on and off, but this time he had only checked in Monday.
Officers say they plan to go back over the last 24 hours of the victim’s life and search the area for any surveillance footage.
“They’re going in, going through the evidence, trying to figure out what they have in there and what the evidence can tell us,” said Watkins.
