The family of a murder victim held a balloon release in her honor on Sunday. Felicia Jones was found dead in her apartment near Admiral and Garnett on August 19th of 2017.

"It was just a shock to me. I just can't believe it. It just seems like she should still be here today," said Felicia’s mother Anna Mae Jones.

Family and friends gathered at O'Brien Park to release balloons, pray, and share memories of Felicia.

"She was very hilarious. Yeah, she did love fried chicken. That was her favorite dish. She showed us how to fry it. She'd say 'fry it with a little grease. Not a lot now just a little bit.' She was the life of our party though," said sister Darlene Peters.

Jones was stabbed to death in her home last year. In August, police arrested Beverly Nichols for her murder in Little Rock, Arkansas.

"For her to be murdered like that it took the whole family by surprise," said sister Janet Newsome.

"It's a deep wound. It's going to take years to heal," said sister Tammy Towns.

Her family says this gathering isn’t just about sharing memories, but also about making the community stronger. Her son, Rico says through Jones' death the family has come together.

“Just celebrating trying to come together, support each other it’s been rough because it’s been a year since the lady has been caught so that’s kind of a big relief for the family,” said Rico Martin.
