It’s officially game week for Tulsa football.
Head Coach Philip Montgomery has said all offseason that this group, this year, gets to write a new chapter in the Golden Hurricane story.
On Monday, the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane released a depth chart that did not include a starting quarterback.
But that has now changed.
“Luke will be our starter come Saturday,” said Montgomery.
Luke Skipper started five games last season, but this will be his first year beginning the season as the starter.
“He’s been really, really coachable and I think he understands what we’re trying to do offensively more now than, obviously, he did a year ago,” stated Montgomery.
Skipper will lead a team looking to rediscover its identity after finishing 2-10 a year ago.
“Last year, I feel like … complacency kind of crept up on us,” said offensive lineman Willie Wright. “Like, okay, we were a 10-win team last year, it’s just going to happen again, and we kind of lost that foundation of blue-collar mentality and work.”
Coach Montgomery says, “I think our team has that chip on their shoulder this year that I thought we were kind of missing at the first of last season.”
