A newborn baby boy is home and healthy, after he didn’t wait to reach the hospital to be born.

Courtney Schmidt says she had it all planned out.  Her water would break, her husband would drive her to the hospital, and she’d have her baby the normal way.

But little Lincoln Izaiah had other plans.

“In shock.  It just happened so fast,” said Schmidt.  “I’m like, ‘you’re going to have to pull over and deliver him.’”

She says her husband “was just like, ‘No, we can make it.  I promise we can make it!’”

That’s when fate stepped in.

“We got right past the toll road and, all of a sudden, the gas just wouldn’t go anymore,” stated Schmidt.  “I’m like, you’re kidding me!”

She says she told her husband to call 911, that she couldn’t wait any more.

“I’m like, ‘Yes, he’s coming out.’  I’m not even afraid any more, I just want him out,” said Schmidt.

“I kept thinking, I’ve got to come around, I’ve got to step up my game, and I’ve got to deliver this baby,” said the father, Beau Sholar.

Coweta firefighters showed up right as Sholar delivered his eight-pound nine-ounce little boy.

“Able to catch him like a little football!” Sholar exclaimed.

The parents call Lincoln their miracle.

“We had a miscarriage last year, so he’s our rainbow baby,” said Schmidt.

They say they feel blessed, especially because of Coweta firefighter Eddie Cunningham, who calmed Schmidt down at the scene.

“I said, ‘Is my baby okay?’  He was just like, ‘I got this.  I got you.  Ain’t nothing gonna happen while I’m here with you,’” Schmidt recalled.

Schmidt says her plans may have been turned upside down, but she says her son and his story are perfect.
