Some Turley Residents Not Happy With Proposed Homeless Village

 Some residents in Turley are fighting back against a proposed housing development for the homeless. Neighbors say they believe the project will only add to the number of problems that already exist in Turley.

The City Lights Foundation says it's communicating with neighbors in Turley to share their vision for the proposed homeless village. They say the main focus of the project is to help those in need. $15 million was given to the City Lights Foundation by a private citizen to help fund the project. 

Michael Whitchurch helped to put up the sign. He believes this project is not a good fit for their town. 

 “It’s not that the homeless are coming here it’s not a concern like that. It’s more or less are you setting us up for failure to rid yourself of homeless. It’s not trash, it’s not a problem, but it is when you put them all in one community that can’t maintain itself as it is,” said Whitchurch.

Fellow Turley resident Tim Davis says he believes this project is a good thing.

"This will help. It will help any community that has homeless people," said Davis.

On Sunday Night more than 100 people met at the Turley Assembly of God and decided to speak out against the project. Michael says he there, signed a petition in agreement. 

"There's a lot of red flags, there's a lot of loopholes. There's a lot of things that could go wrong," said Whitchurch

The next zoning hearing will be September 5th.
