Sunday Storm Chances Continue Across Green Country

After a morning of flooding rains here in Tulsa, the chance for additional scattered showers and storms does continue for our Sunday here in Green Country.

Extremely heavy storms earlier this morning produced 2” to 3” of rainfall in a little more than an hour in parts of the central and south Tulsa metro!  Thankfully, additional scattered showers through midday will be lighter.  We’ll spend a good portion of the day with temperatures only in the 70s before we recover a bit into the lower 80s later in the afternoon.

During the afternoon and early evening hours, some additional scattered storms will try to redevelop across eastern Oklahoma, particularly near to and east of the I-44 corridor.  Depending on how much our atmosphere recovers from this morning’s rains, a few of those afternoon and evening storms could become severe with damaging winds, hail, and even a brief tornado possible.  Additional flash flooding will also be a threat with any storms that move over areas that have already received heavy rains.

Scattered storms look to shift into far southeastern Oklahoma tonight into very early Monday morning, with drier conditions settling in to start the work week.  Some additional scattered showers may move back across extreme northeastern Oklahoma on Monday, but they won’t be anywhere near as heavy as Sunday’s rains.

Temperatures will remain well below normal to start the work week!  Some lingering clouds on Monday will keep our afternoon highs in the lower to mid-80s with a refreshing northwesterly breeze.  And overnight lows should dip down into the lower 60s by Tuesday morning!

Rain chances slowly increase again by mid-week as a few additional upper-level waves will bring us chances for scattered showers and storms Wednesday and into Thursday.  At this time, any severe weather risks appear very low with these systems.

Enjoy the below normal temperatures through mid-week, because summer heat is still on the horizon!  Temperatures look to be surging back well into the 90s by late next week into next weekend.
