Four horses are dead and a teenager is behind bars after Rogers County Deputies say he shot and killed the horses in his neighbor’s backyard.

The owner of the horses said he's had them for years. He's raised them and said they were like family.

He was horrified when he walked into his backyard and found four of his horses dead.

He didn't want to talk on camera but said he immediately called 911.

"The shooter, in this case, targeted vital organs and things like that to stop them, so they were all kill shots," said Deputy Daniel Welch.

Welch said each horse was shot in the heart and left for dead.

He says one horse, named Sage, was one of the animals that were killed in the shooting.

What's even more surprising is that they said they've arrested a 14-year-old boy for the shooting.

"They take very good care of their horses. They're animal advocates. They have a bunch of rescue animals at the residence. It was hard for them, it was hard for us," Welch said.

Deputies said they are still trying to figure out why these horses were killed, but believe an argument between the neighbors may have led to what happened.

"The motive is still under investigation right now. At this time, the motive appears to be a feud with a particular person and it was kind of a retaliation type situation," Welch said.

While investigators are still trying to figure out what happened, they said at least the arrest might bring the family some peace of mind.

The teenager is now facing felony animal cruelty charges.
