Body cam video shows the arrest of the woman police say stabbed her daughter more than 50 times then took one of her other daughters, leading to an Amber Alert.
Taheerah Ahmad didn’t put up a fight when police found her after a more than 12-hour search.
Officers found her less than two miles from her home.
Body cam video shows the moment officers made contact with her.
“Could you go ahead and step out of the car for a minute?” an officer is heard asking on the video. “We’ve been looking for you and your daughter…we’ve been worried about y’all.”
Police say Ahmad stabbed her 11-year-old daughter more than 50 times and then tried to set the house on fire before taking off with her youngest daughter, which prompted a statewide Amber Alert.
Ahmad’s aunts believe abuse in her past pushed her over the edge and she briefly snapped.
“I think she instantly snapped back,” said Debrecka Fields Spriggs. “That’s why Hafsa is still alive.”
Ahmad’s youngest daughter, Hafsa, can be seen in the video trying to climb out of the sunroof.
The oldest daughter is still in critical condition, while the younger two are in DHS custody.
Ahmad’s family says they just hope she can get help.
“She was back, but she wasn’t all the way back,” Spriggs said. “She was wearing lipstick and clothes like nothing ever happened.”
Ahmad faces multiple charges, including assault and battery with intent to kill, two counts of child neglect, and one count of arson.
Her next court date is set for June 14th.
