Steamy Saturday Weather With Storms Ahead

Steamy weather and the threat of storms are both in the cards for our Saturday across Green Country.

Isolated showers and storms are possible for the morning hours across Green Country.  Most are likely to be brief, but some lightning and brief heavy downpours will be possible, so just stay aware for any morning events.

Sunshine will gradually break back through during the day, and that will help to crank up the summer heat!  We’ll climb back into the lower 90s for highs this afternoon, and with higher humidity, the heat index could push into the mid to upper 90s.  Yuck!  Stay hydrated if you’re headed to Mayfest or the Blue Dome Festival during the day!

Storm chances increase late in the day, and that could put a damper on outdoor events later tonight.  Scattered strong to severe storms will be possible, especially northwest of Tulsa by the late afternoon and early evening hours.  These could produce damaging winds and large hail.

Later in the evening hours and into tonight, storms will likely shift further east closer to the Tulsa metro.  If you’re out and about after 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., be aware that scattered strong to severe storms could be close by.  Storm chances look highest for Tulsa near and after midnight late tonight.  Make sure to keep the free News on 6 weather app handy to get the latest weather alerts while you’re out at the festivals!

Showers and storms are likely to linger into Sunday morning across eastern Oklahoma, with activity gradually weakening as we head further into the morning Sunday.  It appears we should dry out just in time for Mayfest, the Blue Dome Arts Festival, and Hop Jam on Sunday!  We’ll also take a break from the summer heat on Sunday with afternoon highs much more pleasant in the low 80s.

The unsettled weather pattern is likely to continue into next week, with at least a slight chance of a few storms on almost any given day.  Any threat of organized severe weather looks to remain low into next week, though some strong storms could bubble up at times.  We’ll keep you updated!
