Police say no workers were injured when a section of the Anchor Glass Container plant in Henryetta caught fire Wednesday evening.

Henryetta Police Chief Steve Norman say just before 9 p.m. they started getting numerous 911 calls that a fire had broken out in one of the shops at the plant on Bollinger Street.

Chief Steve Norman says the Henryetta Fire Department with assistance from several nearby fire departments responded and were able to knock the fire down quickly.

He says there were about 75 people working in the plant at the time and all have been accounted for.

Chief Steve Norman says once workers determined they could not control the fire, those workers began emergency shutdown procedures while other workers evacuated.

At around 10:40 p.m. Chief Norman says some employees were allowed to go into the plant and assist the fire department with shutting down machines and turning off natural gas lines.

Chief Steve Norman says a nearby housing addition was not evacuated, but police urged residents to stay indoors while firefighters battled the fire.

He says Anchor Glass Container officials are on the scene assessing the damage from the fire, but he has been told the company plans to reopen parts of the glass plant not damage by the fire either Thursday or in the days ahead.
