101st Street At Jenks Middle School Reopening To Two-Way Traffic

East 101st Street between Yale and Jenks Middle School is finally open to two-way traffic after being a one-way street for several months.

Road crews were out Wednesday morning to re-stripe the road and to get cones and signs moved.

However, the city said this is only a temporary reopening. They're focusing on another phase of the project for the next three weeks.

City Councilor Phil Lakin, who represents that part of town, said 101st Street will return to one-way traffic when the school year ends so crews can build sidewalks connecting to Jenks Middle School and fix sewer-related problems.

East 101st Street will be completely closed between Marion and Jamestown from June 5 to mid-August, just before the start of the 2018-19 school year.

This project started in April of last year and it's caused long daily backups.

Lakin said it's been a nuisance for drivers.

"We have all of that school traffic at least two times a day so you combine thousands and thousands of people and cars into the same small space and multiple problems are created," he said. 

Councilor Lakin said this project should be finished by November.
