Tulsa Man Arrested After Standoff With Police

A Tulsa man was arrested early Sunday morning after a standoff with police near his residence on East Tecumseh Street.

According to police, 45-year-old Nikita Baskin was upset over his son’s prison sentence and proceeded to leave his apartment, pull out a pistol, and open fire on a subject sitting in a parked pickup truck.

Baskin reportedly went back to his apartment and threatened to shoot his wife and according to police pulled the trigger but the weapon failed.

Police say after that he broke into a different apartment and waited for police to arrive. Witnesses told officers that Baskin would not come out and was still armed. A tactical unit was called in, which made several attempts to get Baskin to exit the apartment, to no avail.

Police say that the decision was made to use gas to smoke Baskin out which was successful. Baskin, however, continued to resist, officers used pepper ball guns to neutralize the suspect.

Baskin has been arrested on complaints including shooting with intent to kill and burglary.  According to jail records, Baskin's bond is set at $156,000.
