The state fire marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a house just outside Sperry.

The Sperry fire chief said he believes the fire started in a room at the front of the house.

Firefighters said the home was filled with flames when they arrived overnight. They believe the fire was burning for 30 minutes before they got there.

Owasso and Country Corner fire departments were called in to help put out the fire, but the home was destroyed.

Sperry Fire Chief Sam Bradley said, despite the help, they still had to shuttle water tankers to the scene from the nearest fire hydrant, over on Harvard.

Sperry firefighters stayed on scene throughout the morning, watching for hotspots and helping with the investigation.

They said no one was inside the home, which was being remodeled.

The state fire marshal is looking at what caused the fire.

Bradley said it's going to be tough to figure it out because there was so much damage.

"Everything's burned up. All the fuels burned up, you know. They'll really have to dig through it to find the cause," the chief said.

The homeowner was on scene but did not want to speak.
