A Tulsa organization that helps at-risk youth and families is looking for donations for an annual event.

Soaring Eagle’s Youth and Family Services is hosting its 6th annual Girls’ Teen Summit for at-risk teen girls.

“The summit is a two-day workshop and panel discussion where teenage girls are given an opportunity to listen to speakers on topics most relevant to young ladies today. The entire day is designed to pour into the young ladies while simultaneously breaking down the walls they’ve built,” according to Soaring Eagle’s website.

The organization says Oklahoma is the leading state for incarcerated women, “leaving many children devoid of counsel, angry with authority figures, and confused about many things in life.”

The goal of the summit “is geared toward preventive education that can alter teen girls from making poor choices to decrease their chances of becoming incarcerated.”

Topics that will be addressed include healthy relationships, skills in addressing bullying, health and fitness, domestic violence and human traffic awareness, and more.

The organization is working with the 49 schools that received an “F” grade from the State due to low test scores, high pregnancy rates, high school drop-out rates and overall low school performance.

Soaring Eagle’s expects more than 200 young ladies to attend the summit. A donation/sponsorship not only allows the girls to attend the summit for free but helps Soaring Eagle’s continue mentoring the young ladies.

All donations are tax deductible. You can find more information here.

Previous summit attendees have seen grades improve, made the honor roll and are going to college. One previous attendee will be going to Harvard University for their summer school program for high school students.
