Keep the umbrellas handy later today! A much-needed chance for rain is headed to Green Country for our Sunday.

Clouds will be on a steady increase today, a sign of increasing moisture as a strong storm system approaches Oklahoma from the west. Those increasing clouds will keep our temperatures from soaring too far, with afternoon highs generally in the low 60s but potentially cooling off late in the day as rain increases.

It’ll be far from a washout today, as the morning hours of our Sunday look primarily dry. But scattered showers and storms look to develop west of Tulsa by mid-afternoon, spreading across northeast Oklahoma through the mid to late afternoon hours and into early evening. The severe weather potential is low, but a few storms could become briefly strong with gusty winds and some small hail possible.

An additional round of scattered strong storms will develop across far northwestern Oklahoma this evening, and some of this activity will spread back into parts of far northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas late tonight. The highest chances of rain with this second round will generally be north of Tulsa. Once again, a few of these storms could be strong to marginally severe with gusty winds and small hail possible.

Storm chances diminish by Monday morning, and some chillier air will sweep in to start our spring break week across Green Country. An area of low pressure will sweep across the state on Monday, and as that surface low slides east it’ll drag more clouds back into Green Country likely keeping our temperatures in the 50s most of the day. Very gusty northwest winds on the back side of that system will make for a blustery Monday, with a few light showers possible late in the day Monday as well.

We’ll keep the chilly air in place through Tuesday with lows dipping into the upper 30s and highs again only reaching the 50s along with a continued brisk northwest wind. Another frost is possible Wednesday morning as temperatures dip close to the freezing mark!

But the chilly air won’t bog down our entire spring break week. A steady warming trend should kick in by mid to late week with highs returning to the 60s Wednesday and likely surging back into the 70s by the end of next week! Our next chance of storms could come our way by sometime next weekend, but the details are still to be determined on that next system.
