Bill Changing Sex Offender Restrictions Approved By State House

An "Only On 6" story last year could soon bring changes to the restrictions for sex offenders.

In June 2017, we told you about a convicted offender who moved in next to his victim in Creek County.

Current law states convicted offenders can't live near schools or playgrounds.  It says nothing about living near victims.

On Tuesday, the state House unanimously passed a bill that would also require offenders to not live within 2,000 feet of their victim(s).

"I believe of all the restrictions being able to live next to the victim should be at the very top," said State Representative Kyle Hilbert of Bristow.

The bill now moves onto the state Senate for a vote.  

Several states including Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Utah and West Virginia have laws restricting sex offenders from living near their victims.
