Tulsa’s Gathering Place isn’t the only large development happening along our stretch of the Arkansas River.
Almost 3 years ago, the lot at Denver and Riverside was empty and overgrown, but Houston-based developer John Gilbert had a different vision for it.
“We identified this site that I had looked at in 2009, and I’ve always liked building by bodies of water and with the Arkansas River here,” said Gilbert.
Now, the Cosmopolitan Apartments are under construction on that site.
The parking garage is taking shape and framing on the more than 260 apartments will begin next month.
Gilbert says “having the Gathering Place announced around the same time was unbelievable, so we are really excited to be on this location and also part of the Tulsa community.”
At first, some neighbors weren’t overly excited.
“My though was we didn’t want to have all this construction going on for all this time,” said Tracy Spears.
Spears has since changed her mind.
“We really haven’t had any issues at all,” stated Spears. “We’re just excited for progress.”
Gilbert says his development group has full confidence the Tulsa market can support more high end apartments.
“In other markets, we look at where there is a lot of apartment construction. We don’t see the same here in Tulsa or Oklahoma City,” said Gilbert. “I still think there is a lot of room for high end class A apartments here.”
The first units should be available in the Spring of 2019 and the Cosmopolitan should be complete by the end of that year.
