Tahlequah Police Investigating Suspicious Death

Tahlequah Police are investigating a suspicious death after a woman’s body was found.

Officers were called just before 10:00 Tuesday morning to the 700 block of East Downing in response to a woman’s body found.

Once on the scene, officers determined the death was suspicious and called for detectives.

Police identified the woman as 55-year-old Emma Jean May.

Police Chief Nate King said there is no obvious cause of death but said the body has some cuts and bruises that could be the sign of a struggle.

"The state of the apartment looked like a commotion of some kind had gone on - whether or not that was a struggle or whether things were tossed about during a medical emergency of our victim, we're not sure," King said.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to help with the investigation.
