The Sand Springs Police Department has a new plan to combat car thefts.
Anyone living in Sand Springs can stop by the police station and get a free sticker to put on their car.
The sticker gives police officers permission to pull your car over without probable cause at certain times of day.
If an officer sees your car out and about between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. in the morning, they can pull it over and make sure the car wasn't stolen.
Sand Springs Police Captain Todd Enzbrenner says they're being proactive even though there hasn't been an increase in auto thefts.
"If it's not the owner, chances are they are gonna take off running and you're gonna know pretty quickly that it's stolen," Enzbrenner said.
Keep in mind having one of the stickers on your car tells an officer that you won't be out driving between 1 a.m. and 5 am.
So if they stop your car, don't be alarmed if an officer is cautious or even asks you to step out of your car while they make sure you are who you say you are.
If you'd like a free sticker, go by the police administration office, suite 101 at 100 East Broadway.
