A man is recovering after police said someone shot him at Avondale Apartments near 71st and Riverside.
Police said they worked two scenes but they said the shooting actually happened here at the Avondale Apartments.
"It's too close for comfort right there. I live just on the other side," said neighbor Daniel Bridges, who lives just a few feet away from where police say the shooting happened. "When I went around the corner and saw the police there, it's just like everything was a sudden shock. It's 'wow, what's going on next.'"
Police said a man asked the victim if he could use his cell phone.
When the victim refused, police say the man argued with the victim before shooting him.
The victim stumbled to a neighbor's apartment asking for help.
"I saw blood droppings in front of the building and a knife laying off to the side."
Before officers showed up, police say the victim went back to his apartment near 61st and Peoria, where his sister called police.
Brides said crime comes in waves around here, but everyone's keeping a close eye on things and they'll continue to do so.
"When something happens, we check up on one another," Bridges said.
If you know anything about the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596- COPS.
