The Sand Springs Police department is asking drivers to slow down on 41st Street east of Highway 97 as a new housing subdivision starts to fill up.
According to a post on its Facebook page, the police department said the City was asked to evaluate the one stretch of 41st that was 50 miles an hour because of the new housing division.
They said the other areas of 41st have been occupied by housing and the speeds in those areas have been reduced for safety.
“We wanted to start with this solution before resorting to other traffic control measures in order to keep traffic flowing as freely as possible,” the post says.
Police said they’ll be instruction officers to show discretion in enforcement because the speed reduction is new but said they need people to slow down so residents can safely exit their neighborhood.
“Saving lives is what is important, and unfortunately, 41st and the Highway 97 corridors are where people in Sand Springs are most likely to have a fatality collisions,” the post reads.
They said police will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as needed.
