Downtown Coordinating Council Taking Steps To Make City More Walkable

The Downtown Coordinating Council is taking steps to make Tulsa more walkable.

One of the things you will soon see is functioning parking meters in the Brady District and an upgraded app for your smartphone.

The hope is that the money generated will then be used to help fund other parking improvements.

The DCC said the City is also working on drafting up language for an executive order that will specify how proposed future development projects are chosen to be recipients of public dollars.

The goal is to put a priority on downtown developments that are in line with the findings of the walkability study.

“We want to use public dollars to influence not only the urban design but the connectivity as recommended in the study between thriving neighborhoods or districts and others,” said Tom Baker with the DCC. 

Another thing the City is hoping to implement is better signage throughout downtown.

Less language, they say, and more pedestrian and street signs that use lighting, images and icons rather than too much language.
