Claremore Police Use Opiate Antidote To Save Man

Claremore police officers said they used an opiate antidote on an unconscious man Tuesday after they found him passed out with labored breathing and saw signs that he'd used intravenous drugs.

Police were called to the 2300 block of N. Jay Ave. after receiving a report of an unconscious man. After administering one dose of Narcan to the man, he regained consciousness within seconds, police said. The man admitted to police that he'd recently injected himself with heroin. 

He was then taken to a Claremore hospital for further treatment.

Officers said on the Claremore PD Facebook page that they used 'Narcan,' also called naloxone, which can be used on a person who's overdosed on an opioid. 

The Narcan used was made possible by a partnership with the Cherokee Nation and the Oklahoma Department of Health. 

Claremore PD said this was the first time they've had to administer the antidote.
