"It was very quiet and eerie. If that makes a point. The farther you got to band which was most affected, the harder everything got," said band member Grant Nixon.
Jaymeson West was a junior and played saxophone in the Pride of Broken Arrow Band. His dad wrote in a Facebook post that Jaymeson jumped from the top of the stadium after Friday night's football game.
Some students wore purple ribbons in memory of Jaymeson, as a way to help bring healing.
"If a student is hurting, talk to a counselor, and if you don't feel comfortable talking to a counselor talk to a teacher or a friend," Nixon said.
Local child counselors agree, saying the best thing students can do during a time of loss, is to reach out to someone.
"It's important to not hold in our feelings. Talk to their parents, teachers, councilors at school, their friends. Making sure that they're getting their feelings out and not holding them in," said counselor Latasha Littleton-Guthrie.
Nixon said Jaymeson had a bright future ahead of him - one he says is gone too soon.
"I mean he felt like an 'A,' student, 'B' student, really high average. It didn't feel like that would happen to him," Nixon said.
